Raranga Matihiko TV – Home learning
The Raranga Matihiko team and Te Papa's Learning team have created 16 episodes of Raranga Matihiko TV.
These episodes have been designed for junior and senior students and focus on weaving digital technologies with museum taonga while exploring the topic of kaitiakitanga (guardianship and protection).
Episode 1a: Waka Huia Juniors
Learn about Waka Huia and how they are used to protect and preserve our precious taonga (treasures), and how museums are kaitiaki (guardians) of our taonga. We then create a 3D model of a waka huia in Tinkercad.
This episode is designed for students working at levels 1-3 of the NZ curriculum.

Explore kōrero, storytelling and how stories are treasures linking us to who we are and where we have come from, through written language and visual arts. We use SculptGL to create story pou with symbols and designs relevant to us.

Look at how we can be kaitiaki (guardians) of people and how the memories of our whānau, including our ancestors, can be protected and shared with future generations. Learn how we can record memories using a memory jar, and using digital animation.

We look at kaitiakitanga (guardianship and protection) through places that are important to our whānau. Create a digital book and a fold-out paper book about a place or person special to our family. Draw our family tree and think of ways that we can show kaitiakitanga to our whānau.

Episodes 5a: Whenua Juniors
We look at kaitiakitanga (guardianship and protection) through our environment. We visit the Endemic Wall at Te Papa to view some of the taonga from our whenua (land), and then create an animation with block coding to show how we can be kaitiaki to our whenua.
