Matariki manako nui
The wishes and desires of Matariki
‘Manako’ are wishes and desires, and traditionally Māori would send their hopes and dreams into the stars during Matariki.
Matariki is a time not only for remembering and celebrating but also for looking forward. It is a time for setting goals, identifying aspirations, and creating a thriving future for people and te taiao. In these activities, ākonga are researching and analysing their community’s aspirations as well as taking social action for a better world.
Make sure you are using whakawhanaungatanga with whānau Māori and mana whenua.
